What we collect, and what we don't.

Last updated 6 July 2026

01The short version

MCP Index is a public directory. You can browse the whole thing without an account, without signing in, and without us knowing who you are. We collect the minimum needed to keep the directory running, stop abuse, and take payment for featured listings — nothing else, and we never sell it.

02What we collect when you browse

Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested page, timestamp), kept short-term to operate the site and detect abuse. Your light/dark theme choice is stored in your browser's local storage — it never leaves your device. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

03What we collect when you submit a server

The server name, URL, and any note you enter. To rate-limit spam we store a one-way hash of your IP address, never the address itself. Submissions are reviewed by a human before anything is published.

04What we collect when you buy a featured listing

Payment is handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number. We keep your billing email and Stripe's identifiers for your customer and subscription so we can manage the placement, send receipts, and honour renewals and cancellations. Stripe's own privacy terms govern the payment itself.

05Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to understand which pages are useful (page views, referrers, rough geography). It is used only in aggregate to improve the directory, never to build a profile of you.

06Who we share data with

Only the vendors that make the site work: Cloudflare (content delivery and security) and Stripe (payments). Public data about listed servers comes from the official MCP registry, GitHub, and npm — those are sources, not places we send your data. We do not sell personal data, and we disclose it otherwise only if legally compelled.

07Your choices

You can browse without giving us anything. To have a submission or featured-listing record amended or deleted, or to ask what we hold, email [email protected] or use the submit form and a human will handle it. If you paid for a listing, we retain the minimum billing records required for tax and accounting.
