Our take

Unified GitHub-and-GitLab MCP server in clean modular TypeScript, with self-hosted instance support and a GIT_READ_ONLY safety switch — the GitLab side is the real reason to pick this over the official GitHub server. The catch is it's been untouched since December 2025 after a week of development, so treat it as a working snapshot rather than a maintained project. Needs a PAT with whatever scopes you grant it.
