Install

Recommended desktop setup: open Screenpipe’s Settings → Connections. This configures the bundled runtime and local API key automatically.

For manual npm setup, install Node.js with npx, then run screenpipe auth token locally. Replace YOUR_LOCAL_SCREENPIPE_API_KEY below with your key. Never send your key to MCP Index. Explicitly setting it avoids slower fallback discovery.

Privacy: Recording history stays local by default. MCP sends requested results to your AI client, which may send selected context to a cloud model; configured cloud services can also send data off-device. The MCP server documents sanitized error telemetry and opt-out controls. Review the official privacy details and your client’s settings before sharing sensitive context.
